Jewish History in Bucharest + Museum

Join us on a walking tour of Bucharest’s Jewish Neighborhood. Together with a specialized guide, you will uncover the complex history of the Jewish community in Bucharest, a city that was once home to a significant number of Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews. The tour follows the establishment of the Jewish Quarter in Bucharest, as well as the evolution of the lifestyle and occupations of Jewish families in Bucharest along the centuries.

Our journey through time begins in the heart of the city. Escaping persecution and  seeking new opportunities, Jewish brought with them rich traditions and trades that greatly contributed to Bucharest’s urban development. As we visit the most significant sites, we will reveal stories of prominent Jewish figures and their influential roles in commerce, crafts, and the establishment of Romania’s banking system.

A highlight of our tour is a visit to the Jewish Museum, housed in a former synagogue (ticket included in the tour price), which illustrates with artifacts, photographs, and documents the Jewish community’s resilience through periods of adversity such as the Holocaust and Communist Era in Romania.

Join us on this tour and gain profound insights into the Jewish heritage of Bucharest. Limited spots available due to group number limitations, be sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible.

Catalina

Cătălina is the brain behind the whole operation—part PhD, part experience architect, and 100% passionate about Bucharest. As co-founder of the Museum of Communism and a former teacher of Geography and Travel & Tourism, she’s the one making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. Always one step ahead — she’s the one who handpicks, trains, and inspires our amazing team. If the tours feel thoughtful, fun, and unforgettable, chances are Cătălina had something to do with it.

Maria

With over 7 years of experience and Spanish so flawless it could host its own telenovela, Maria is a true powerhouse of passion and professionalism in the world of tourist guiding. Oh, and did we mention she has a Master’s in Tourism Resources and Activities Management from the University of Bucharest? Yep—Maria’s got the brains and the charm.

Lavinia

Lavinia is a whirlwind of good vibes, armed with a Master’s in Social Studies, fluent Spanish. With over 4 years of guiding experience, her tours are like your favorite class—if your favorite class included jokes, fun facts, and zero exams. Always ready to answer your questions (even the really random ones), Lavinia will make sure you leave the tour smarter and happier.

Gabriela

Gabriela knows Bucharest like the back of her map—because yes, she’s a Geography graduate from the University of Bucharest. With over six years of experience as a guide, she’s fluent in English and passionate about making history feel alive with personal stories. Think of her as your witty local friend who knows all the cool spots AND what happened there 300 years ago.

Bogdan

Bogdan is the guru of unique and unconventional experiences in Bucharest. He speaks fluent English and Spanish. With a background in Cultural Heritage Management and Archaeology. Having studied in three different countries – UK, Spain and Romania – Bogdan is a true cosmopolitan. He’s also an archaeologist with a sharp wit and a taste for dark humor—so expect tours that are as insightful as they are entertaining.

Ali

With a master’s degree in Cultural Tourism from the University of Bucharest and experience at the National History Museum, Ali knows her history inside out. She’s got the charm of a Disney character—think Minnie Mouse but with a passion for heritage and a talent for storytelling. Sweet, kind, and full of surprises, Ali will make you fall in love with Bucharest one story at a time.

Larisa

Larisa is pure sunshine with a flair for storytelling—and an expert command of Italian that could make even Dante do a double take. Maia

She’s always ready to answer your questions—yes, even the weird ones—and to share her secret tips on where to eat, what to visit, and how not to look too much like a tourist. You’ll even start planning your next trip back before the tour ends.

Gionti

Warm, witty, and fluent in flawless Italian, Gionti is not only a brilliant guide but also a future doctor—so you’re in safe hands, literally. Between fun facts and fascinating stories, she’ll make sure you fall head over heels for Bucharest (don’t worry, she knows first aid). By the end of the tour, you’ll know more about Romania’s history and have a new favorite city.

She studied French and Spanish Philology at the University of Bucharest and is now diving even deeper into her love for languages with a master’s in Hispanic Studies. Passionate about literature, expect dramatic plot twists, quirky facts, and lots of laughter—delivered with a flair that’s 100% Andreea.

Cosmina

Cosmina is a sharp-eyed Sociology student who sees Bucharest like few others do. She leads tours in English and Italian, mixing smart social insights with stories even locals haven’t heard. Just when you think she’s the serious type, she hits you with a joke or an odd fact that sticks. Give her a few more years and she might just start her own secret society of quirky tour guides.

Alberto

Brilliant, charismatic, and currently studying International Relations and European Studies, Alberto has a natural talent for connecting the past to the present. Whether guiding in English or Spanish, after a tour with Alberto, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of Romania—and a strong suspicion you’ve just met a future president.

Alina

A graduate in Italian from the University of Bucharest and currently also working at the National Village Museum, Alina knows tradition inside out—literally. Whether you’re here for history, legends, or just a great photo spot, Alina will make sure you leave with a deeper understanding of Romania and probably a new favorite folk tale (or five).
